TRANSFER PORTAL TRACKER

Players crossing the Bedlam battle line is always an interesting proposition, but after losing a defensive lineman to the Sooners last year, the Cowboys have an eye on bringing a Sooner D-lineman to Stillwater.

Reggie Grimes II, a 6-foot-4, 278-pound defensive end, announced an Oklahoma State offer on Tuesday after entering the transfer portal from Oklahoma. In four seasons with the Sooners, Grimes had 43 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, a pass breakup and three forced fumbles. Grimes played in only four games this season with the Sooners, meaning he should be given a redshirt. That would mean Grimes has two years of eligibility left.

Grimes was a high-level prospect out of Ravenwood High School in Tennessee. He was the No. 124 player in the 247Sports Composite ranking and picked the Sooners over offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State, Ohio State, Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M and others. In high school, he had a verified 4.58 40-yard dash and 32-inch vertical.

He played in eight games as a true freshman in Norman, recording five tackles, including a sack. He made five starts in 2021, playing in all 12 of OU’s games, where he had 18 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles. Grimes made 10 starts as a junior in 2022 and again had 18 tackles, but 7.5 were for loss to go with 4.5 sacks. He recorded only two tackles this past season, playing only four games.

Since entering the portal, Grimes has announced offers to Memphis, OSU and Tulsa.

The Cowboys have a need for pass rushers this offseason as key contributors Nathan Latu and Anthony Goodlow should be out of eligibility. Grimes’ size could also fit in nicely with Bryan Nardo’s 3-3-5 scheme in liking bigger defensive ends.
