Path to the Draft: Mason Rudolph’s Fit in New Orleans and Many More Projections
We are less than a month from D-Day. With the NFL Scouting Combine and OSU’s Pro Day in the rear view, all that’s left are private meetings and workouts for a handful of former Pokes before they await their fate on draft day in Jerry World on April 26.
Let’s fire up this week’s edition with an intriguing potential landing spot for OSU’s all-time leading passer.
Rudolph a Fit in NOLA?
In his latest one-round mock for CBS Sports, Sean Wagner-McGough has Mason Rudolph going No. 27 overall to the New Orleans Saints.
I’m sticking with this pick. Even after re-signing Drew Brees, the Saints need to begin to prepare for life after him. Rudolph might have a bright future if he is brought along by the right coach. Sean Payton seems like that coach. CBS Sports
The Denver Post also has Rudolph headed to New Orleans in the first round in its mock draft.
Yes, Drew Brees is back. But with the future Hall of Famer approaching his age-39 season, it’s time to start grooming his replacement. Rudolph could be an intriguing choice for the Cardinals if they were to remain at No. 15, but that may be a stretch for the former Big 12 quarterback. Denver Post
This is a fit I hadn’t given much thought to, but it’s intriguing if you’re any draft eligible QB. You get to learn the system under an elite veteran like Drew Brees, and there is a ton of young talent around you with the likes of Alvin Kamara and Pro Bowl receiver Michael Thomas, who the Saints recently inked to a four-year deal.
Plus, if you’re Rudolph, you can avoid all of those uncomfortable hand-size queries. #DomeLyfe
Marcell Garnering interest in Green Bay
The Packers featured Ateman in a Prospect Profile on the team’s website.
It’s worth a view.
Marcell Ateman talked with Pro Player Insider about his prep for the draft, what he still needs to improve on and his faith.
Faith has been an important factor with Marcell and he is not scared to say how his faith has shaped him into the man that he is today. “Without God in my life, I would not be the person that I am today. My faith has been strengthened through dark times and it has taught me patience, as well as life lessons.”
More Draft Projections
Chris Trappasso is still holding firm with his prediction of Rudolph to upstate New York, tabbing him as a future Buffalo Bill with the team’s No. 12 via Cincinnati.
The cost to move up was ultimately too much, and the Broncos didn’t want to trade with an wild-card contending AFC team at No. 5. Rudolph checks a lot of the Bills’ boxes. CBS Sports
In his latest mock, Will Brinson has Rudolph going No. 15 overall to the Arizona Cardinals. A home in Tempe would mean a chance to compete for reps behind newly-signed QB Sam Bradford.
The additions of Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon were nice upside options for the Cardinals, but they are probably not the long-term answer at quarterback. CBS Sports
Luke Easterling of USA Today’s The Draft Wire has the following projections in his seven-round mock.
1st: Mason Rudolph – No. 22 to Buffalo
2nd: James Washington – No. 53 to Buffalo
5th: Marcell Ateman – No. 149 to Washington
6th: Tre Flowers – No. 217 to Oakland
I’m in for all of that. Sign me up for the Rudy2Wash connection 2.0 and Tre Flowers in Raider silver and black just sounds awesome for some reason.
Landof10.com had James Washington going No. 18 overall to the Seattle Seahawks in its latest mock draft.

Okay, I’m done.

• Mason decided to rest that arm with some fellow former Pokes and a guy who knows a thing or two about NFL talent.

One of best qualities I love about Mason Rudolph is ability move around and make the big play. Big Ben is a master at it and Mason has it. pic.twitter.com/uFuKmjCveo
