PFB Predictions for 2017-18 OSU Basketball Season

Published

on

The college basketball season gets underway on Friday for many programs across the country, Oklahoma State among them. As such, the PFB team is going on record with preseason predictions on Big 12 finish, final record and more.

Let’s hop to it.

Kyle Boone: Where do you think OSU finishes in the Big 12?

Kyle Porter: I’ll say they finish 7th. Clip might be the best player in the league, and I think Kendall Smith has a big year. I have a firm “if you have the best player in the league you won’t finish worse than 7th” rule.

Hayden Barber: I️ was going to go 10th, but then I️ remembered OSU will get Davon back. I’ll say ninth. I️ just don’t think there are are any viable options outside of Carroll in down-the-stretch type games.

Matt Harris: I say OSU finishes 8th, goes 5-13 in conference play.

Boone: I’ll go 9th. I think OSU finishes a game ahead of Iowa State in the final standings.

Kyle Cox: I’ll go 8th to outbid Boone like on Price is Right.

Sam Aldrich: I️ think Cowboys finish 8th in Big 12, Carroll wins Big 12 POTY, Pokes miss tourney (barely). Waters and Dillard are effective starters. Sima makes immediate defensive impact when eligible. Cowboys are greatly improved defensively.

Ryan Harris: I think OSU will finish 8th.

Boone: What do you think is OSU’s final conference record?

Cox: They’ll go 6-12.

Nick Welch: I agree with Matt, I think OSU finishes 8th above Iowa St and KState, lets say at 5-13

Barber: I’ll give the Cowboys a 4-14 conference record.

Ryan: 6-12. They’ll shock someone at the buzzer.

Aldrich: Conference record of about 6-12.

Boone: I will say 5-13 is the final conference record.

Boone: What do you predict to OSU’s final record to be on the season? (30 total games by my count?)

Porter: 17-13

Slavin: I’ll say they go 7-11, good enough for 7th in the league. Final record 17-13.

Matt: 15-15 with a loss at Arkansas

Porter: This is depressing.

Barber: 13-17, one better than Ford’s last year.

Cox: 10-20

Boone: Yeah … I’m going to say 14-16

Welch: 9-4 in non-conference play with 5-13 in conference, so 14-17 overall…..yikes

Ryan: 16-14 and a close win at Arkansas

Slavin: Is our pessimism about the roster or the coaching staff?

Matt: I think Underwood adds another win or two but it really depends on guard play and depth. Does OSU have a real deep threat sans-Phil? What does the guard situation look like, how do you replace Jawun’s production?

Slavin: As much credit as Boynton deserved for helping develop players last year, I think other guys like Lindy Waters are going to step up. Plus, I think they’ll be able to play both Smith and Averette at the same time in a lot of games to give them some legit production in the backcourt.

Welch: 7/10 Big XII coaches have made an Elite 8, it will be a steep learning curve for Boynton tactically in-game against these coaches.

Slavin: Plus, we get Sima in time for Big 12 play. Don’t quash my optimism!

Porter: #IRideWithSlavin

Boone: Sima is the new Cobbins-Chamberlin.

Ryan: OSU lost too many starters. Jeffrey and Davon will have to carry the team.
