PFB Predictions: Oklahoma State-South Alabama

Published

on

Oklahoma State travels to Mobile, Alabama on Friday night to get revenge for that Troy game from a decade ago to see if they can hang 70 on Team USA in game No. 2. The Fightin’ Mullets will face a Jaguars team that got beat soundly by Ole Miss last week, and the Pokes come in as a 29-point favorite. Let’s get to our picks for this week.

Kyle Porter

Pick: Oklahoma State 63-28
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the game: Justice Hill

South Alabama gave up 233 yards to a single receiver last week (A.J. Brown) for Ole Miss. I don’t think they make the same mistake twice and sell out to stop the pass. Justice Hill will see more open space than Lewis and Clark and Mike Gundy will let his team put on a performance for a national television audience.

Kyle Boone

Pick: Oklahoma State 51-13
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the Game: Justice Hill

I think Mason Rudolph winds up surpassing Brandon Weeden as OSU’s all-time leading passer on Friday, but even still, I think it will be Justice Hill and the running game that anchors OSU in the win. We all know the worst-case scenario for Gundy would be watching his senior QB toss a few ill-advised interceptions on the road, so I think the Pokes ride the gavel of Justice all night. Give me Keondre Wudtee in garbage time!

Kyle Cox

Pick: Oklahoma State 62-18
Spread: Like a thick orange blanket
Player of the Game: Justice Hill

The Cowboys win big even with one little snafu in the kicking game. Other than that, it’s a well-oiled steamroller we see purring into the second half. Gundy tries to chew up 4th quarter clock on the ground but Justice will be swift — and cannot be contained. More chunk yardage and highlight-filling tape that teaches us even less about Oklahoma State’s Big 12 chances.

Hayden Barber

Pick: Oklahoma State 56-17
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the Game: Mason Rudolph

South Alabama runs a lot of cover 1, or man-to-man, defense. That’s a horrible idea. Rudolph should have a field day if they try to body James Washington and the like. In fact, it should be a record-setting field day.

Phillip Slavin

Pick: Oklahoma State 45-24
Spread: Oklahoma State does not cover
Player of the Game: Tyron Johnson

OSU builds a solid 28-10 lead at the half then coasts through the second half with some long, chunk-play scoring drives. Jags try to double James Washington, thus Tyron Johnson catches everything. The Jags get a couple of second half touchdowns that don’t do anything more than ruin the Vegas spread and make people think OSU’s defense, which will force 3+ turnovers, isn’t any good.

Justin Southwell

Pick: Oklahoma State 56-31
Spread: USA covers
Player of the Game: Mason Rudolph

South Alabama should be a little better than Tulsa against the run, so I think it will be another one of Mason’s nights to shine on the road. He will finish tonight as OSU’s all-time leading passer. South Alabama put up 29 on the road against Ole Miss so it’s hard to pick them getting any less points against OSU’s defense, especially since they’re he home team. Because of that, OSU doesn’t cover the 29-point spread, but still walks out with a solid road win.

Matt Harris

Pick: Oklahoma State 49-17
Spread: Pokes cover
Player of the game: Mason Rudolph

Mason throws for 300 and the running game goes for 200 and this game is never in doubt. The defense gives a second straight solid showing to open the season by limiting the Jaguars to just 17 points. Heavy dosage of Corndog in the 4th quarter and the young running backs get another chance to prove themselves. This game will teach us nothing about this years team, Pokes roll.

Ryan Harris

Pick: Oklahoma State 59-13
Spread: Oklahoma State covers
Player of the game: Tyron Johnson

Gundy showed us last week that he wasn’t going to take his foot off the gas against an overmatched Tulsa squad. I think he does the same tonight until the fourth quarter when we see LD Brown go for another 90 yards on the ground. I think Tyron Johnson gets more involved this week for my player of the game. I had a friend suggest Gundy’s mullet for MVP and honestly it isn’t a bad choice for this game. Pokes roll.
