Preston Stout, Cowboy Golf Wins Another Big 12 Championship
Preston Stout won his record third Big 12 individual title.
Preston Stout has been to three Big 12 golf tournaments and won them all.
Stout earned his third straight individual Big 12 title on Wednesday at Prairie Dunes, making him the conference’s first ever three-time individual champion. The Cowboys won their second consecutive team title.
At about the midway point of the final round, Stout looked to be in a battle against BYU freshman Kihei Akina, but Stout separated himself late, birdieing 11, 13 and 17 en route to his title. His birdie on 11 was the prettiest.

Stout finished three shots ahead of the field and was the only golfer at the event who didn’t shoot over par in any round, with his worst round being Wednesday’s final (everyone had a harder time Wednesday) with an even-par 70.
As a team, the Cowboys paced the field by eight strokes. The tournament sort of felt like a formality from a team perspective after the second round, where the Cowboys went 13-under as a group, which was five shots better than any other team in that round and opened up a big lead they wouldn’t squander.
The individual leaderboard was 73 players long until you got to guys who subbed in for a round or two during the tournament. Alan Bratton rolled with the same five guys for every round, and they all finished in the top half of that group of 73, with Ethan Fang finishing eighth, Gaven Lane tying for 14th, Eric Lee tying for 19th and Filip Falhberg-Johnsson tying for 29th.
It’s OSU’s 13th Big 12 title and Bratton’s fourth as the Pokes’ coach. The Cowboys also won 36 Big Eight titles and nine titles in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Up next for the Pokes will be NCAA Regional action on May 18. Should they advance as expected from there, they’d look for a second consecutive national title from May 29-June 3 at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California.
