Ramon Richards Not Surprised by Game-Cinching Interception: ‘I Expected it all Game’

Ramon Richards ended the angst of Oklahoma State fans on Saturday with a game-sealing interception in the end zone in overtime. It was a stunning ending that even dropped the jaw of Porter.

Richards, however, says the ending wasn’t a surprise to him.

“I expected it all game,” said Richards. “The whole game I kept telling myself, ‘You’re going to get an interception. You’re going to get a turnover.’ So when it came, I expected it. I was waiting on it all game and it finally showed up.”

Richards may not have been surprised by the play that sealed it, but many supporting the orange and black were plenty surprised. In a game OSU didn’t play to its potential, his play provided a walkoff INT — yet Richards didn’t realize as much until the entire sideline bombarded him.

“I didn’t even know it was the end of the game after I caught the pick,” Richards said. “I still thought our offense had to go back out there. So when I saw everyone rush the field I left to go see our fans .. I had to show the fans I appreciated them.”

After the game, head coach Mike Gundy praised his defense for its performance and especially Richards for the game-winner.

“Only good news was: I knew when Ramon went up, and I saw his hands, I knew that he would make the catch because he’s a former quarterback,” said Gundy. “It was kind of a soft pass, and I knew right then, and I was trying to figure out why that happened. I didn’t know I had been living so good.”
