Uniforms
Ranking the football uniforms: No. 23
We aren’t huge fans of the traditional White-Orange-White look.
The traditional white-orange-white has been host to two of the biggest routs of the Gundy Era. These threads are have won a combined 143-3 over Savannah State and Lamar in the last two years.
Here’s a closer look at the combo:
Uniform No. 24:Â White-Orange-White
Worn: 2012 against Savannah State and 2013 against Lamar
Result(s):Â 2-0 (84-0Â over Savannah and 59-3 over Lamar)
White helmet: 2-0
Orange tops: 6-0
White pants: 2-0
It’s not that I dislike these it’s just that with 39,393 or however many combos we have, why wear the olds ones. If you’re going to wear the old ones wear the old ones and throw it back with these:
I like these in a vacuum, I just don’t like them when you can run the all blacks out there or the carbon fiber-white-orange combo or the ones we wore at Iowa State. I’m with Carson (who you’re about to hear from) OSU should just go all in on the crazy like Oregon does. Just own it. You’re already 95 percent there, might as well cruise to the finish line.
I asked Carson Cunningham — a uniform connoisseur himself — to start weighing in on these rankings so you would get a different side of the coin. Here’s his take:
Carson: It really does feel like a wasted opportunity when they go traditional W-O-W, and going throwback is a great idea, Kyle.
If they insist on wearing the old reliable W-O-W, why not wear these? The old brand would be a welcome sight for one game.
There’s nothing wrong with this combo, it’s just they introduced new uniforms for a reason: To mix it up.
As Kyle mentioned, it’s time to go full-Oregon, I’m all for it. They’ve had these uniforms since 2011. My hope is they introduce some more tweaks this season. It seems like they busted out a new helmet every other game last year. That’s a good start. My first alteration would be to introduce some chrome.
Out of sheer boredom, I would rank these lower. Not for their actual look of the uniform, but the fact we’ve seen these for three solid decades. The Oregon of the Big 12 should not go W-O-W anymore.
