You don’t want to face the Cowgirls after a loss.

No. 24 Oklahoma State defeated UCF 72-58 on the road. Jacie Hoyt earned her 50th victory at OSU, and the Cowgirls earned their fifth Big 12 win.

Fresh off a disappointing loss at Houston, the Cowgirls hit the ground running in Orlando.

They started 8-of-11 from the field to build a quick 19-8 lead and didn’t let off the gas from there. OSU won the first quarter 25-14 and built on the lead each of the next two quarters. The Knights were able to make up some ground in garbage time with a 14-1 run in the final minutes, but those were more style points than substance, digging into an OSU lead that had ballooned to 28 with six minutes left and was still over 20 at the 90-second mark.

Four different Cowgirls scored in double digits, but they were led by their sophomore phenom.

Stailee Heard continued her hot streak, leading all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting. She logged her seventh double-double of the year grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. She also dished out three assists and snagged four steals.

Anna Gret Asi poured in 15 points on just nine shots, draining four of 7 3-point attempts. She also had four assists and a pair of steals.

Tenin Magassa scored 12 points on just eight shots and grabbed five boards.

Micah Gray scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Although the Cowgirls’ offense was firing on all cylinders, they were also able to lock down defensively. Despite that late surge, the Cowgirls held UCF to 39% from the field and just 17% from deep. OSU doubled up the Knights in points off turnovers, 20-10, grabbing 12 steals. Their biggest achievement on that side of the floor may have been holding the Big 12’s second-leading scorer Kaitlin Peterson, who came in averaging 21.7 points per game, to just eight points.

With the win, Oklahoma State moves to 15-3 and 5-2 in conference play. The Cowgirls climbed into the AP ranking for the first time in seven years at No. 24 last week before falling at Houston 79-76.

“Honesty, this was out bounce-back game just to show everybody that that last game was not who we are,” said Heard after the game. “We just have to come out punching and be who we are. Share the ball, get stops like we usually do.”

Next up, the Cowgirls host No. 10 TCU at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Horned Frogs are 19-1 overall, a league-leading 7-0 in Big 12 play and will show up in Stillwater on a 10-game winning streak. Even if the Cowgirls drop out of the Top 25 on Monday, they’ll have ample opportunity to make their name on Wednesday.
