There isn’t a much for exciting time in football than one person beaming down the field with a helpless defense in pursuit.

Oklahoma State has had a fair share of big plays in its history, including two on this list in the past two seasons. Here are the longest plays from scrimmage in OSU history.

1. Ed Gallagher at Kansas State in 1908 — 99 yards

Yes, that Ed Gallagher, the Gallagher part in the Gallagher-Iba Arena, the would-be wrestling coach that led the school to 11 national championships.

In the seventh season of the school’s football program, Gallagher ran the full length of the field in Manhattan in a game Oklahoma A&M would go onto lose 40-10.

The Aggies finished that season 4-3, shutting out Central Oklahoma and Chilocco Indian College in their final two games of the year.

2. Dorsey Gibson at Houston in 1953 — 97 yards

It took about 50 years for someone to even come close to Gallagher’s program-record run when Dorsey Gibson took off for 97 yards against Houston in the J.B. Whitworth era.

Oklahoma A&M needed it, too. Stillwater’s team ended up beating Houston 14-7 that day in the Missouri Valley Conference meeting.

T3: Tatum Bell vs. Texas Tech in 2003 — 95 yards

Finally to something we have highlights from.

Tatum Bell toasted Texas Tech in a classic Cowboy/Red Raider shootout. His 95-yard run was one of his three touchdowns on the day. He finished with 238 rushing yards.

OSU ended up beating Tech 51-49.

T3: Zac Robinson to Jeremy Broadway vs. Iowa State in 2008 — 95 yards

The only passing play to make the list, Zac Robinson and the No. 9 Cowboys lit up Iowa State in 2008.

To go with throwing the longest pass in OSU history to Jeremy Broadway, Robinson also connected with Dez Bryant for four touchdowns, one of which was 80 yards.

Robinson finished the game with 395 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and the five passing touchdowns. The 95-yard catch-and-run was Broadway’s only catch of the game. Bryant caught nine passes for 171 yards and the four scores. And OSU thumped ISU 59-17.

T5: Chuba Hubbard vs. TCU in 2019 — 92 yards

Chuba Hubbard ran for at least 200 yards in three games this past season, with his 223 against TCU being the most recent.

Hubbard ran all over Gary Patterson’s defense, scoring his career long 92-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He then had a 62-yard score in the fourth.

OSU beat the Horned Frogs 34-27.

T5. Justice Hill vs. Missouri State in 2018 — 92 yards

Justice Hill had a chance to make it a three-way tie at third on this list, but he ran out of steam toward the end of his 92-yard scamper against Missouri State to open the 2018 season.

Hill took a handoff from Taylor Cornelius on a play that started at OSU’s 5-yard line, and he made it all the way into Missouri State’s five before being tripped up.

Hill finished that 58-17 win with 122 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries.
