Redshirt Freshman Kaid Brock Scores Multiple Wrestler of The Week Honors

Oklahoma State redshirt freshman wrestler Kaid Brock recently earned FloWrestling’s national Wrestler of the Week award, as well as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week award after his 7-6 decision victory over top ranked Corey Clark of Iowa of Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

This is the first time that Brock has been named WoW by Flo, but marks the third time that he has received the honor from the Big 12 in his career. His first recognition in conference was in the first Bedlam dual of 2015, when Brock pinned defending national champion Cody Brewer in the first minute of the match.

Brock then went on to face the eventual national champion Nashon Garrett of Cornell in the Southern Scuffle, losing by injury default. To date, this is Brock’s only loss. He received a medical redshirt shortly thereafter which is why he remains a freshman.

Brock’s win on Sunday bumped him to No. 2 in both the Intermat and Flo rankings at 133. He is still ranked behind Ohio State’s Nathan Tomasello, who was the top ranked wrestler at 125 last season before deciding to move up to the 133-weight class.

Brock’s win also got Coach Gundy fired up in the row behind the OSU bench. If you watch the video, you can see Gundy’s bright, long sleeved tee shirt tucked into the blue jeans stand up and give Kaid a spirited applause at the 12:10 mark.

Other highlights from the Brock match were Brad Underwood trying to explain something to the person next to him, and OSU fans behind the scorer’s table making fun of Iowa Coach Tom Brands.

Brock will look to extend his 15 match win streak this weekend as the Cowboys host West Virginia on Friday night and South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon. It is time to hop on the Kaid Brock hype train, as we may be witnessing the next great Oklahoma State grappler in action for the next four years.
