Rarely do you see a true freshman football player make an immediate contribution to the team. Even more rarely do you see a true freshman football player who enrolls in the summer see the field. Turns out, Trace Ford is all sorts of rare.

The newbie from Edmond Santa Fe continued his strong freshman campaign this week by notching three tackles, one tackle for loss, a pass breakup and his first sack, the latter of which came on a critical fourth-down stop. For a defense that resembled swiss cheese in the Texas Tech loss, he was one of the bright spots:

Here’s an update to our season-long tracker of who has and hasn’t played this season as we monitor newbies eligible for the NCAA rule that allows for players to play in up to four games while maintaining a redshirt.
