Mike Boynton’s home borough of Brooklyn has become a second home for the Cowboys the past few years, and they’ll head back in 2022.

Oklahoma State will play Virginia Tech on Dec. 11 at the Barclay Center as part of the Hall of Fame Invitational, according to Jeff Goodman. The Cowboys are 3-1 in Brooklyn since Boynton took over.

Opponent Result Season
Texas A&M L, 72-55 2017-18
Pitt W, 73-67 2017-18
Syracuse W, 86-72 2019-20
Ole Miss W, 78-37 2019-20

Here is the rest of the event, according to Goodman:

Maryland vs. Tennessee
Iona vs. St. Bonaventure
UMass vs. Hofstra

OSU’s game won’t be short on storylines. It’s in Boynton’s hometown, and he’ll be playing against a mentor in Mike White. White was Wofford’s head coach from 2002 to 2019. Boynton was an assistant under White during the 2007-08 season, where Boynton carried an associate head coach title.

Former Edmond Memorial standout Sean Pedulla also plays for the Hokies. At one point, Pedulla had an Oklahoma State offer before ending up in Blacksburg, Virginia. He played in 36 games for the Hokies last season where he averaged 5.4 points and 1.3 assists a game while shooting 45% from 3.

Virginia Tech went 23-13 last season and 11-9 in ACC play before winning the ACC Tournament, beating North Carolina and Duke in Brooklyn to do so. The Hokies fell to Texas in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament 81-73.

It’s looking to be another exciting nonconference slate for the Pokes. OSU will play UConn in the Big East-Big 12 Battle, and the Cowboys will also look to get revenge on Oakland after the Grizzlies upset the Pokes last season. That game is reportedly scheduled for Nov. 13.
