The Cowboys are in need of some size for Steve Lutz’s first Oklahoma State roster, and they might be closing in on some.

Four-star prospect Sammie Yeanay is on an official visit to Oklahoma State, according to 24/7 High School Hoops. Yeanay signed with Arizona State in November before reopening his recruitment last week. A member of the 2024 recruiting class, Yeanay is the No. 89 player in the 247Sports Composite ranking. Before signing with the Sun Devils, Yeanay also had offers to Houston, Florida, Alabama and others.

Out of Florida, Yeanay played at Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, this past season. He’s listed at 6-foot-8, 230 pounds. Even as a freshman, that would make him the second-biggest body on the Cowboys’ roster behind Xavier transfer Abou Ousmane (6-10, 244).

Here is what 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein said of Yeanay in an October evaluation:

Yeanay is a strong-bodied forward with a high-motor and physical style. He’s competitive, powerful, runs the court, and plays hard on both ends of the floor. He came up the ranks as an undersized big man, who was physically mature at a young age and thus able to put up big numbers by overpowering people in the paint. As he’s gotten older, he’s expanded his game and become more versatile in the process. He’s still a definite threat with his back to the basket, who understands how to get deep post position and has good footwork. He can also put a lot of pressure on the rim as a face-up driver who almost dares opposing defenders to get in his way with an aggressive downhill style. He’s starting to extend his shooting touch away from the basket and has also shown some flashes of being an underrated passer in high-low action. Defensively, he can body-up and bang with bigger players on the block and has worked to improve his footspeed and lateral quickness when pulled to the perimeter. Yeanay is also an active rebounder on both ends of the floor. [Finkelstein/247Sports]

In constructing his first roster, Lutz has seemed to put an emphasis on getting high-motor guys. Davonte Davis, Arturo Dean, Robert Jennings II and Khalil Brantley, for example, all fit that mold. That motor paired with his size that the Cowboys need would seemingly make Yeanay a great fit.

The Cowboys have three open scholarships at this point in the early summer. OSU doesn’t, for the time being, have a freshman on the roster after Jeremiah Johnson last month requested his release from his national letter of intent. Lutz’s first roster will be made up almost entirely of new pieces, as Bryce Thompson, Jamyron Keller and Connor Dow are the only scholarship players set to return from last season’s squad.
