Report: North Texas Transfer Quarterback Chandler Morris Visiting Oklahoma State
Morris ranks fifth nationally in passing this season.
One of many big questions surrounding Oklahoma State football this offseason is whether the Cowboys will take a quarterback out the transfer portal, and it seems they’re at least interested.
North Texas transfer Chandler Morris is visiting OSU, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Morris is a bit of a journeyman, starting his career at Oklahoma before spending three seasons at TCU and the 2024 season with the Mean Green. In five seasons, Morris has played 32 games, throwing for 6,207 yards, 47 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Zenitz reports Morris also has an upcoming visit to Virginia.
Morris was a four-star prospect coming out of Highland Park in Dallas. He chose Oklahoma over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, USC and others.
He played in five games as a true freshman at OU in 2020, completing three of his five pass attempts.
He redshirted at TCU in 2021 while still taking part in four games. He played four more games during the Horned Frogs’ run to the national championship game in 2022, actually starting TCU’s season opener that year before suffering an injury in the third quarter.
Morris was again the Horned Frogs’ starter going into the 2023 season, starting the first six games of the year before again being sidelined with injury. Over the span of his three seasons in Fort Worth, Morris completed 66% of his pass attempts for 2,394 yards and 16 touchdowns to five interceptions.
He then took the portal to North Texas ahead of this season and has been absolutely slinging it for the Mean Green. Morris ranks fifth nationally in passing with 3,774 yards and 31 touchdowns to just 12 INTs. Also a threat with his feet, Morris has ran for another 242 yards and four touchdowns this season. Morris threw for at least 300 yards in seven of the dozen games he’s played in this season, and he has also thrown for at least three touchdowns in seven games. He eclipsed 400 passing yards in four games.
The Cowboys have a trio of exciting but less experienced quarterbacks on the roster in Garret Rangel, Zane Flores and Maealiuaki Smith. OSU coach Mike Gundy said before the season ended that he expected to have all three back in 2025. Oklahoma State is losing Alan Bowman, who started a majority of OSU’s games the past two seasons, with Bowman running out of eligibility.
