The Cowboys will have a pair of high-major opportunities in November in South Carolina.

Jon Rothstein reports that Oklahoma State will play Minnesota and Virginia Tech at the Charleston Classic on Nov. 20 and 22. This fully completes the Cowboys’ nonconference schedule.

Oklahoma State’s 2026-27 Nonconference Schedule

Oct. 27 (Tuesday) — at Wisconsin (exhibition)

Nov. 6 (Friday) — vs. Queens
Nov. 12 (Thursday) — at Texas A&M
Nov. 16 (Monday) — vs. Central Arkansas

This will mark the Cowboys’ ninth all-time meeting with Minnesota. The teams last met in Tulsa in 2019, where the Golden Gophers cruised to a 86-66 win. The teams also met in 2015 (in South Dakota), where the Cowboys won, and in 2018 (Minneapolis), where Minnesota won.

It’ll be Niko Medved’s second season in charge of the Minnesota program after he led the Golden Gophers to a 15-18 record in Year 1. Before that, Medved had a 143-85 record across seven seasons at Colorado State, where he led the Rams to the NCAA Tournament three times. Minnesota hasn’t made the Big Dance since 2019.

The Cowboys and Hokies have met five times on the hardwood, and the Hokies have won every meeting. The last came in Brooklyn in 2022, where Virginia Tech won 70-65. All of the teams’ meetings have come in different areas.

This’ll be Year 8 for Mike Young in Blacksburg. He has a 124-98 record leading the Hokies and took them to the tournament in 2021 and 2022.

It’s not exactly a murders’ row of a nonconference schedule, but it isn’t a cake walk, either. OSU will play two teams from the SEC (Texas A&M and Oklahoma), two teams from the Big Ten (Minnesota and Northwestern) and the ACC’s Virginia. And that doesn’t include always-solid teams like Grand Canyon and Saint Mary’s.
