It looks like Steve Lutz has filled one of the openings on his staff.

Oklahoma State is set to hire former Ball State assistant Lou Gudino, according to a report from College Hoops insider Jon Rothstein. Gudino coached Ball State’s bigs and also held the title of associate head coach. He was with the Cardinals for the past three seasons.

“I’ve known Lou for many years,” said Lutz in OSU’s release. “He is one of the most prepared coaches in our profession and has helped elevate every program that he’s been a part of. His eye for talent, knack for player development and deep basketball knowledge will make an immediate impact here. I’m thrilled to welcome him and his wife Dana to Stillwater and the Cowboy Basketball family.”

Gudino comes in with plenty of coaching creds.

He has spent time on staff at Indiana State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Wichita State and Ball State. He’s worked his way up the ladder.

Before coaching in Division-I, he had a head coaching stint at Frank Phillips Junior College. There, he led the school to its first conference title and earned Western Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors.

His first Division-I job came with Louisiana Tech back in 2005. He was an assistant and the recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs.

The Indiana State Sycamores made five consecutive postseason trips with Gudino on staff, including a 2011 NCAA tourney appearance. He also held the associate head coach title with the Sycamores.

Gudino spent one season at New Mexico State, and the Aggies won the WAC championship to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Before spending three years at Ball State, he spent four on the bench at Wichita State, serving as associate head coach in his final season with the Shockers.

Gudino’s hiring comes just three weeks after a pair of OSU assistants were hired away.
