Report: UConn Running Back Transfer Mel Brown to Visit Oklahoma State
An injury stunted what looked to be a big 2025 season for Brown.
It looked like Mel Brown was in for a big year at UConn before a broken collarbone derailed things, and now he’s reportedly taking a visit to Oklahoma State.
Brown will be in Stillwater on Wednesday and Thursday, according to Kevin Cacabelos. His OSU visit will come after trips to Tulsa and Colorado State.
The 2025 season was Brown’s second at UConn, and he was off to a strong start. In three games, Brown had 159 rushing yards on 16 carries (9.9 yards per), but a broken collarbone held him out until the Huskies regular season finale against FAU, where Brown promptly ran for 70 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He also played in the Fenway Bowl against Army, running for 33 yards on six carries.
In his two combined seasons at UConn, Brown finished with 935 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on 6.2 yards a carry. He also caught a dozen passes for another 97 yards and a score and was a deadly return man, averaging 25 yards per kick return, including a touchdown.
Listed at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, Brown transferred to UConn from FCS Gardner-Webb. In two seasons with the Bulldogs, Brown had 1,033 rush yards, 278 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns.
He hails from Miller Grove High School in Georgia and led DeKalb Country in rushing as a high school senior with 1,714 yards.
New OSU running backs coach Patrick Cobbs is going to have to rebuild a good chunk of that room. Trent Howland and Freddie Brock finished out their eligibility in 2025, and Sesi Vailahi, Kalib Hicks and Jaden Allen-Hendrix have all announced intentions to enter the portal.
