Rickie Fowler Hits 70 MPH on Astros Opening Pitch

After shooting a 64 in the first round of the Shell Houston Open, Rickie Fowler headed over to the ballpark to throw out the first pitch in the Cubs-Astros game. It was a little high, and Fowler was disappointed, but at least he didn’t Mason Rudolph it.

“It’s great to be able to come out and watch a little baseball,” said Fowler. “I know a lot of them love to play golf or try to play golf. Jimmy (Walker) and I here — there are times on the road when we’ll have a couple of gloves and a ball and go toss it around a little bit.”

As for that pitch?

“It was a little embarrassing. It was high. Not what I was looking for. Their analytics guy said it was 70. I wanted to cruise one. I’m happy it came back at 70. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, but I am a little embarrassed that it was a little up.”
