Rudolph Has Third Best Heisman Odds; OSU 30-1 to Win National Title

After a tough loss in their Big 12 home opener, the Cowboys were able to right the ship with a road win in Lubbock. Mason Rudolph bounced back from his two-interception performance in the loss to TCU and accounted for all five of Oklahoma State’s touchdowns — and even one of Tech’s.

His big game, and some help from a certain preseason Heisman fave on the West Coast, has Rudolph back to third in the Heisman odds race according to sports betting service Bovada.

2017 Heisman Odds
Player Team Opening Odds Current Odds
Saquon Barkley Penn State 20-1 5-4
Baker Mayfield OU 7-1 9-4
Mason Rudolph Oklahoma State 15-1 9-1
Lamar Jackson Louisville 8-1 10-1
Sam Darnold USC 5-1 14-1
Bryce Love Stanford — 14-1

Barkley, who leads the nation in all-purpose yards, remains the favorite after putting up 205 yards including a 98-yard kickoff returned for a score in Penn State’s blowout of Indiana. Mayfield was off and newcomer Bryce Love, the nation’s leading rusher has pushed himself into the conversation.

The preseason favorite, USC’s Sam Darnold has had a rough start to the year. He’s thrown nine touchdowns to eight interceptions and is coming off of the worst game of his career, a 15-of-29 performance where he threw for just 164 yards, zero TDs and a pick to Washington State in a loss.

The Cowboys’ title odds don’t look quite as good as Rudolph’s Heisman odds. After an early Big 12 loss, the cards are stacked against an OSU team who would likely have to run the table including a Big 12 championship game victory to ensure a spot in the playoff.

A two-loss OSU, even with a conference title, would need several things to fall its way for a shot to make the Final Four. OSU has the 11th-best odds (30-1) according to the latest numbers. The same as TCU.

Here’s a look at the updated national championship according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.
