The Cowgirls are headed to Bloomington to face the Hurricanes.

Oklahoma State earned an 8 seed in the Greenville 2 Regional of the 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and will face 9 seed Miami. It will be just the third time the Cowgirls and Hurricanes have met and the first time since 1991. The Cowgirls and Hurricanes will square off Saturday in Bloomington, Indiana.

It was all smiles in Stillwater as the Cowgirls learned they were headed back to March Madness.

“I can’t even put it into words,” OSU coach Jacie Hoyt said. “When you work so hard for something and then to see it all come to fruition is just amazing. It’s excitement, it’s joy, it’s relief — it’s just everything kinda wrapped up into one.

“Just surreal, just surreal. To do it with the group of people that we did was really special. I’m just so thankful for our fans support and knowing what our team had to go through to get to this point. Just to be able to see it with them was really neat.”

The Cowgirls return to the NCAA Tournament after missing the postseason last year. OSU last went dancing in 2021 when they lost in the second round to 2-seeded Stanford, the eventual National Champions.

The Cowgirls finished the year 21-11 and 10-8 in the Big 12 in Hoyt’s first season. Their first-round win over West Virginia in the Big 12 Tournament gave Hoyt her 21st win, tying a school record for a first-year head coach with a chance for her to take record against Miami.

Oklahoma State is 1-1 all-time against Miami with the Cowgirls thumping the Hurricanes 93-69 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament back in 1989 and then falling to them two years later in the Florida Int. Classic.
