Newberry, Stuen and Ford Reflect on Seniors’ Final Night in GIA

This basketball season has obviously been an incredible disappointment. But that doesn’t lessen the emotion of senior night. OSU has five of them walking out of GIA for the final time on Friday night (and Phil Forte is not one of them).

Jeff Newberry, Anthony Allen, Chris Olivier, Ford Stuen and Cody McElory which might actually legitimately double as Travis Ford’s starting lineup against Texas.

“When you’re a freshman everything is so new, and all of a sudden you’re a senior walking out here,” said Stuen. “We’ve got one game left in this place. It will be a tough night. Might have to hold back a few tears. I wouldn’t trade (coming to Oklahoma State) for the world.

“You go through a lot will these guys. A lot of people outside of this don’t understand what you go through. You see these guys every single day of your life. It’s almost like a family, and that will go on forever. It’s not goodbye, but it’s the end of road that’s been a heck of a goodbye.”

Newberry echoed that sentiment.

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” he said. “You’re going through that college process of trying to find what school you want to go to and I was happy to get back to this level. I’m happy I picked Stillwater. It has always felt like home to me. I’ve always enjoyed my time here.”

And expect some emotion from Travis Ford as he hands jerseys out before the game. He actually looks pretty emotional already.

“Senior night is always one of those nights that is very emotional,” Ford said. “You’re trying to focus on the game but also you want to honor your seniors who have put in a lot of work here. It’s always a tough night, there is no question about it.”

The unfortunate part for Ford? This might be his last night in GIA too.
