Series History: Wait, Oklahoma State Hasn’t Won at Baylor in … a Decade?

It will have been over 3,000 days between wins at Baylor if the Pokes take one this weekend.

Oklahoma State has not won a college football game in Waco since … holy smokes is this right … double checks … 2009?!

  • Overall series: OSU leads 20-16
  • Under Gundy: OSU leads 8-5
  • Longest streak: Tied at 9 — OSU (1996-2004) | Baylor (1915-1942)
  • Biggest rout (OSU 60-0 in 1914)

After their pre-WW1 rout of the Bears in Stillwater, it would take OSU 11 games (and 60 years!) before they would score 60 more points combined. They went 1-10 in that stretch from 1915-1974. They’ve gone 18-6 since then with the majority of those losses coming with Art Briles at the helm in Waco.

Intriguingly, OSU has lost three in a row in Waco.

  • 2016: The Justice fumble game
  • 2014: The first Rudolph game
  • 2012: The end of that bizarre Chelf/Walsh/Lunt season

They didn’t play there in 2010 because of the schedule flip so you have to go to the 2009 box score to see a tally in the W column for the Pokes.

Zac Robinson had one of his best games as a Cowboy in October of that year. He went 23/27 for 250 yards and 3 TDs as OSU routed a 4-8 Baylor team (led by Nick Florence with Bob Griffin on the bench!) 34-7. That 85 percent completion percentage ranks No. 6 on the all-time single game list for OSU.

OSU was ranked for every single week of that season in the AP Poll, even though they only scored 7 combined points in their final two games against OU and Ole Miss.

Incredibly, if OSU wins on Saturday it will be 3,297 days between victories in Waco. This website has never existed when OSU has won a college football game against Baylor on the road. ?

“I think if you look at what’s going on in our league, Oklahoma – to this point – has played much better than other teams just based on looking at scores,” said Mike Gundy on Monday. And then West Virginia had an off day, but other than that they have played at a high level.

“You can take everybody else, in my opinion, and put them in the same category. Any Saturday, if you’re not prepared and you don’t take care of the ball, you’re suspect to not play as well as you want to. Baylor is a much-improved team from a year ago. They play hard and it looks like they understand their concepts. ”

OSU is an 8-point favorite to nab their sixth win and become bowl eligible for the 13th straight season in the Mike Gundy era.
