Seven Things to Know Ahead of OSU-West Virginia Including Justice’s Shot at History

How No. 5 could join Terry Miller on an all-time list.

Oklahoma State and West Virginia will play this weekend in Stillwater, USA and we should (hopefully?) be in for another great one. WVU isn’t as high-octane as OU, but its defense is better. Like, a lot better.

Let’s take a look at a few things I learned going through the game notes as OSU once again tries to get bowl eligible.

O vs. D: Will Grier is not Kyler Murray, but they still average 3.2 points per drive — think a lesser 2011 Oklahoma State — and OSU currently gives up *double and triple checks* yes, 2.65 points per drive, good for 101st in the country, which is currently behind Kansas State, Texas Tech and well behind Kansas.

All the penalties: Oklahoma State and West Virginia combine for 145 penalty yards per game. West Virginia is ranked No. 114 in the country in this category, and Oklahoma State is somehow worse at No. 115. Saturday’s game might last until Sunday.

3: That’s how many wide receivers in OSU history have had multiple 200-yard games in a season. Rashaun, Dez, Tylan. The entire list!

  • Tylan (2018): OU (220), Texas (222)
  • Rashaun (2003): SMU (232), Ole Miss (223)
  • Dez (2008): Houston (236), Baylor (212)

Tylan also leads the country in catches of at least 20 yards and catches of at least 10 yards.

5: If OSU wins on Saturday they will be 5-1 against their last six top 25 opponents. That’s kind of stunning. The problem this year has been the bottom 105. Related: If OSU wins this will be just the fourth season in school history in which they would have beaten three top 10 teams (all the lols).

70: That’s how many yards Justice Hill needs to become just the second player in Oklahoma State history with three 1,000-yard seasons. Terry Miller and Justice is the list.

Corndog vs. Top 10: With another top 25 team on tap, looking at the Corn’s numbers against top 25 teams is pretty interesting. He’s averaging 355 yards per game on a 64 percent completion rate with 11 total TDs and no INT. Close your eyes, remove the image of his scruffy beard, bad number and receding hairline and yeah, that’s pretty legit.

59: If OSU gets to 43 points this weekend, good chance they win. They are 59-3 under Gundy when scoring 43 or more (they’re averaging 40.9 since 2010 by the way, second to Oregon). The only three losses? Bedlams 2012, 2017 and 2018. So 1-3 against OU and 58-0 against everyone else.
