Spencer Sanders’ watchlist list continues to grow.

Oklahoma State’s fourth-year starting quarterback is on yet another national award radar. Sanders landed on the watch list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. The Big 12’s preseason First-Team QB is also on watch lists for the Maxwell Award, the Davey O’Brien Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Sanders enters his fourth year as OSU’s starting quarterback just eight wins shy of Mason Rudolph, the program leader. Sanders led the league in total offense and total offense per game last year, and he led his team to a 12-win season, a Big 12 Championship appearance and a historic comeback win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

In 2021, Sanders threw 2,831 yards and 20 touchdowns to 12 interceptions while completing 62 percent of his passes. He rushed the ball for 664 yards and six touchdowns (4.6 per carry).

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is bestowed annually to the top Division I offensive player “who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.”

The watch list will be whittled down to 16 semifinalists in November and then five finalists will be announced in December. Those finalists will enjoy an awards banquet on Jan. 11, 2023 in which a winner will be announced.
