All-Sports Roundup: Cowboys Claim Third Straight Carmel Cup
Football started last week with a bang, but it might not have even been the best showing by an OSU athletics squad so far this fall. Let’s take a look around Stillwater at what’s going on with non-football and hoops squads.
Men’s Golf
The Cowboys claimed first in their season-opener on Sunday, winning The Carmel Cup for the third year in a row at Pebble Beach. The Pokes, who were named preseason No. 1 in August by Golfweek, won the event by 14 strokes over Texas Tech at 52 under.
OSU’s Hayden Wood finished tied for first in individual play at 19-under 197. Kristoffer Ventura, Zach Bachou and Matthew Wolff also finished in the top 15 at third, 13th and 15th, respectively.
Wood has had quite the run as he was also medalist at the U.S. Amateur at Riviera a few weeks ago.
Not one, not two …

Soccer
The Cowgirls defeated the UTSA Roadrunners to earn their fifth win of the season on Sunday. OSU’s Taylor Olsen had three goals in OSU’s 6-0 victory. This came on the heels of a wild draw with Texas A&M last Friday.
“It was a great weekend obviously,” said head coach Colin Carmichael. “So far so good — 5-0-1 coming home, and the team feels really good about where we are right now.”
Freshman reserve Taylor Olson netted three of her four goals on the season in the UTSA win, but overall 12 (!) different players have scored OSU’s 19 goals so far this season.
