Steve Lutz has hired another program’s associate head coach to be a part of his staff.

Oklahoma State on Monday announced that Jeremy Cox is joining Lutz’s first Cowboy staff after Cox spent the past three seasons as Joe Golding’s associate head coach at UTEP. Cox was the 2006 NJCAA National Coach of the Year after leading Arkansas-Fort Smith to a national title.

“I’m pleased that Jeremy and his wife, Cindy, will be joining us in Stillwater,” Lutz said in OSU’s release. “Jeremy is a friend, a family man and very well-respected throughout college basketball. He’s won a national championship as a head coach and been an assistant at the highest levels. We’ll benefit from his knowledge and more than 30 years of experience leading and mentoring young people.”

Cox had spent time as an assistant at UTSA, Kentucky, South Florida, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Southern Miss and Stephen F. Austin before his gig at UTEP. He has been an assistant under Billie Gillispie, Doc Sadler, Stan Heath, Kyle Keller and Golding.

He has also coached 292 games as a head coach, split among stints at College of Southern Idaho, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Garden City Community College and North Dakota State College of Science. He has a 224-68 record as a head coach.

Cox joins a staff that includes associate head coach James Miller, assistant Keiton Page, assistant Robert Guster, assistant Mike Ekanem, and director of scouting and analytics Zeke Brooks-Sena. The Tulsa World also reported Monday that Scott Sutton is staying on with the program in some role.

That staff’s first task is rebuilding a roster in the wake of Mike Boynton’s mid-March dismissal. As things stand, OSU has seven scholarship players on its roster:

Bryce Thompson
Jamyron Keller
Connor Dow
Jeremiah Johsnon (incoming freshman)
Arturo Dean (transfer)
Robert Jennings II (transfer)
Marchelus Avery (transfer)

That leaves six scholarships available. Members of the coaching staff last week put out their respective bat symbols eluding to another addition, but said addition has yet to be announced.
