Stillwater Stars Led by Markel Brown, Coached by Doug Gottlieb Pulls Out of TBT
Well this stinks. OSU’s All-Star squad won’t compete for the $1M prize.
The Stillwater Stars — a team comprised of Oklahoma State alums who compete in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) — pulled out of this year’s tournament in a surprise move announced Friday. The event was scheduled to begin Saturday.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Stillwater Stars will be unable to compete in TBT 2022,” the team said. “We’d like to thank TBT for giving us the opportunity to compete in the event and represent Oklahoma State on their platform the last two summers. We thank all our fans for the support, and look forward to returning in 2023.”
TBT is a 64-team, NCAA Tournament-style bracket event played in different regions. OSU, a 4 seed in its region, was scheduled to play its first game a week from Friday against the Air Raiders, a 5 seed.
TBT has taken off in popularity in recent years after its inception in 2014 in part because of its unique ending of games, using the Elam Ending. It’s a winner-take-all event with a $1 million prize for first place. OSU’s team this year was set to feature Jeffrey Carroll, Markel Brown, Anthony Hickey, Kendall Smith, Le’Bryan Nash and others.
