TCU Starting Running Back Likely Out Against Oklahoma State

When the TCU Horned Frogs come to Stillwater next week to kick off Big 12 Conference play, they’ll likely be doing so without their starting running back.

Head coach Gary Patterson said after TCU’s 56-36 win over SMU on Saturday that Kyle Hicks, TCU’s senior in the backfield, ‘got dinged’ once again and is ‘probably’ out for Oklahoma State, according to SportsDay Dallas. Hicks also missed the team’s season-opener against Jackson State.

Hicks began the day with a strong showing against SMU, toting the rock 11 times for 84 yards. But he didn’t play in the second half, leaving the opportunity for sophomore running back Darius Anderson to run wild in the victory.

Anderson performed admirably in his absence with 14 rushes for 89 yards and 2 TDs in TCU’s win, but Hicks’ versatility, should he miss the game next week in Stillwater, will undoubtedly leave TCU shorthanded. Hicks was not only the Horned Frogs’ leading rusher last season, but also the leading receiver with 1,489 yards from scrimmage in his junior season in 2016.
