It looks like the Cowboys have an eye on a transfer receiver from the FCS level, and he has a spot on the all-name team.

Chevalier “Karate” Brenson (listed on Tennessee State’s roster as Karate Brenson) announced an Oklahoma State offer this week after hitting the portal as a grad transfer. With Tennessee State last season, Brenson caught 79 passes for 1,088 yards and six touchdowns. He’s listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds.

New OSU receivers coach Theron Aych will be plenty familiar with Brenson, as Aych was Tennessee State’s offensive coordinator in 2022 and 2023 — Brenson’s first two seasons in Nashville.

From St. Louis, Missouri — where OSU has established more of a foothold in recent years — Brenson was a three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. The 247Sports Composite ranking had Brenson as the No. 894 player in the class. He initially went to Ball State over offers from Kansas State, Illinois, Memphis, Colorado State and others.

He played in three games as a true freshman at Ball State in 2021, catching two passes for 12 yards.

Brenson then transferred to Tennessee State and made an immediate impact, playing in 10 games with the Tigers in 2022, where he finished second on the team in receptions (25) and receiving yards (329). He had 28 catches for 277 yards and two touchdowns in 2023 before his big season this past year.

He announced his entry into the portal last week and has already announced offers to OSU, Bowling Green, Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Texas State, Coastal Carolina, New Mexico, James Madison, San Diego State, UTEP, App State, Louisiana Tech and Marshall.

The Cowboys lost a ton of production from their receiver room last season — most notably Brennan Presley, DeZhaun Stribling and Rashod Owens. To counteract that, the new OSU staff has brought it a handful of portal receivers — Shamar Rigby (Purdue), Sam Jackson V (Auburn) and Jaylen Lloyd (Nebraska). The Cowboys’ seem to have a good amount of slot-type receivers, but they probably could use another guy like Brenson to compete on the outside.
