The Final Draw (PFB+): The Blueprint for OSU’s Offense Following That Dud Against Tulsa
Looking at things that worked well for OSU’s offense and the Cowboy defense’s third-down struggles.
Rewatching these games was supposed to get easier as the transfer-heavy Cowboys developed chemistry with each other and learned the new coordinators’ schemes better.
(Sigh).
Despite only scoring 12 points against Tulsa, the Cowboys’ offense did a few positive things on that side of the ball that the team should strongly consider building an identity around.
The extra week off seemed to have an adverse effect on the defense, which reverted to its 2024 state when it came to tackling.
Today’s Final Draw will examine:
- The secret ingredient Oklahoma State’s offense could tap into this week.
- What went right and wrong (but mostly wrong) for the Cowboys’ defense on third down?
- Other player grades and insights
Let’s start with the offense, which freshman Rodney Fields Jr. did his best to drag to a victory when he rushed for 113 yards while averaging 6.6 yards per carry on Friday night.Â
That kind of performance should put Oklahoma State’s five-man running back rotation to bed going forward, but Field’s night could have been much better if Oklahoma State stuck with what was working.
