A Few Thoughts On the 2016 Oklahoma State Depth Chart

Oklahoma State released its depth chart for the Southeastern Louisiana game next weekend on Thursday, and I have some thoughts. Here’s a look at the chart.

• Three true freshman in the eight-player two-deep at WR, eh? I love it. Part of this is because Marcell Ateman is out until October, but at least some of it is because Mike Gundy and Co. had no idea that a walk-on WR (Obi Obialo) would bid for time and that Dillon Stoner and Tyrell Alexander would be as good as they are.

• The depth chart for next week at RB is just going to say [anyone on okstate.com with a ‘RB’ next to his name]

• No surprises that the Oil Baron is QB2. Kyle B. had that two weeks ago.

• It will be interesting to see how the linemen get moved around as the season gets rolling and if guys get injured. For example: Is Lemaefe Galea’i really going to play ahead of Larry Williams at RG if Jesse Robinson goes down? I doubt it. Probably just a placeholder.

• A true three-deep at both DT positions. IS THIS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE BAMA EVERY YEAR?

• I’m mildly surprised to not see Tralund Webber’s name at DE. Maybe I shouldn’t be. I’m more surprised to not see Kevin Henry’s name anywhere.

• It looks like Devante Averette won out the LB position battle at WLB that we discussed yesterday.

• That group of safeties. [whistles as loudly as possible with two fingers in mouth] Wooo boy. That’s some fun.

• The kick returners/punt returners include a man named Barry Sanders, a true freshman and the new No. 1 on offense. Pretty much perfect.

• The most surprising omission I suppose is Jeff Carr. I don’t think this means he won’t play necessarily (Gundy mentioned him in his Thursday press conference). It might just mean they ran out of “ors” for the sheet.
