Three and Out: A Look at Kansas and Possibly OSU’s Best Senior Class

Published

on

Oklahoma State ends its regular season with what should be an easy win over a 1-10 Kansas team at home. Let’s not have anymore nerve-racking home games this season.

So let’s take a look at three important numbers for this weekend’s regular season finale and senior day.

121

The Jayhawks are bad — as in the worst Power 5 team in the country.

No really, BCF Toys lists Kansas’ FEI Rating at 121 out of 128 teams, lowest among the P5 ranks. If you look at net points per drive, the Rock Chalk gridiron club ranks 128th. It’s 124th, scoring just 1.24 points per drive on offense and 126th, allowing opponents to score 3.36 on each possession.

Losing to this team will make you the subject of memes and the butt of social media jokes for years to come. Sorry Texas, you’ve still got a ways to go before you live that down.

So the Cowboys should get win No. 9 on Saturday, giving them the opportunity for a 10th win in whichever bowl they end up with. That would be four double-digit win seasons in the last five years and six in the last eight.

Would it come on the heels of a disappointing stretch and season in general? Absolutely. But it would be a welcome consolation and good note to send off maybe its best senior class ever.

21

On Saturday, 21 Cowboys will suit up for the very last time inside Boone Pickens Stadium. I think this is probably the best class to ever come through Stillwater.

Rudolph is one of the best two QBs to ever sling it as a Cowboy and James Washington is one of the three best to ever catch it. Add in Marcell Ateman, Ramon Richards, Chad Whitener, Tre Flowers and a slew of other Pokes who will be remembered by fans for a long time.

The 2014 season featured probably the lowest part of Mike Gundy’s career become a launching point for two-straight (could be three-straight) 10-win seasons. And disappointing as this season ended, that is no small feat.

These guys left their mark on Oklahoma State and a football program in the midst of its more successful stretch.
