The Cowboys added some star power to their defense on Sunday.
Donovan Jones, a 2025 linebacker from Waco, Texas, announced his intention to play his college ball in Stillwater.

The Cowboys extended Jones his first scholarship offer back in October and that, apparently, meant for a lot. He picked the Pokes despite a slew of other offers that followed which included Big 12 rivals TCU, Houston and Baylor as well as a four other schools from his home state of Texas.
Jones’ recruiting may have ramped up recently, but he’s been making plays and wreaking havoc for Midway High School (Waco), for a couple of years. He’s fresh off an impressive junior season in which he racked up 71 tackles, six tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and four pass breakups. The year before, as a sophomore, he notched 37 tackles, two TFLs, a sack and three breakups.
Here’s a look at a few of those big plays.
At 6 feet and 202 pounds, and with still another year to develop, Jones could vie for early impact reps once he hits the practice field in Stillwater.
With Jones, the Cowboys now have 14 commits for the 2025 class, but he’s the highest-rated among four defenders. His 88 composite rating by 247 makes him the third-highest rated pledge. The service considers him the No. 63 linebacker in the class and the No. 80 prospect from Texas. With his pledge, OSU’s 2025 class moves to No. 23 nationally and fourth in the Big 12, as of writing. On3 also rates him with three stars.
Jones’ commitment comes just a day after running back DJ Dugar announced he’d be a Cowboy. Both were in town this month on visits.
