Top 10 Comments: New-Look Cowboy D, Corndog’s Success and More

This was quite the weekend for Oklahoma State. After being dubbed an underdog right before kick-off, the Pokes dominated Boise. Lets get into the Best 10 comments from the last week.

1. Nickname Drama – on Porter’s Post re: Reader Thoughts

Levin: We’re making a mistake if we nickname the RB corps anything other than The Justice League. (23 upvotes)

Thank you, Levin! You helped contribute to this masterpiece. Many thanks to PFB’s Marshall Scott for his photoshop skills.

2. Boise Fan on Boise v. OSU

Aaron S: Hey all, Boise fan here. I’ve been reading your comments on previous posts on this blog, and I see some of you that think you’ll win by a hefty margin, some who believe it will be close (as do I) and very, very few who have their doubts about your team going into this game. Let me tell you a few things about our team.

1. Our defense is no joke. We returned our whole defense from last season outside of LVE, and he’s been replaced well so far. There is no weakness on this defense. It’s a great overall unit, and it returns a huge star for this game in DL David Moa.
2. Our offense is about the same- there are playmakers all around, and our QB Brett Rypien has looked… different this season. He’s looked amazing, much better than previous seasons. Our running game is very strong and is powered by a good O-Line. The only possible weak point on this offense is if you get pressure on Brett Rypien consistently and force him to make very fas decisions.
3. Our special teams are excellent as well. Avery Williams is a great returner who housed two kicks last season and nearly took one home already this year.
All in all, both teams match up very well. I genuinely have no idea how this game will turn out. Here’s to a good time and no injuries. (20 upvotes)

Boise fans and OKState fans became friends with the incredible Fiesta Bowl win in ’07. Posts like these show the Boise fans are still pretty great.

3. On Porter’s 10 Thoughts from the Boise game, which is a must read in itself

Clint: 1st…this – “Mike Yurcich should get a lot of credit for letting Corndog loose on the ground in the first half…” Absolutely!! (20 upvotes)

You’ll see more on this below. But getting Corndog in on the action proved to change the offense for the better in the 2nd quarter on Saturday.

4. On Cornelius’s Nicknames

Orange Tuono: You mean Corn Dozer? (16 upvotes)

Okay Tuono. There’s no reason to bring Blake Bell into the comment section…. All I need is to re-live that bitter cold evening when he led a touchdown drive to come back and beat OSU in Stillwater… Ha. Joking.

I’ll be interested to see how much more action we see of Corndog running the ball. It certainly adds a great dimension to the offense. My only concern is will he wear down? In a close game down the stretch, I’d rather not see QB1 bleeding and limping  because he was hit so many times in the first three quarters.

5. Devin Harper’s Pick Six from the South Alabama Game

rod: So if I’m understanding it correctly, we identified the release valve when we blitz on third and long. And we adjust as the game goes along.

That’s what we’ve been missing, a gameplan that evolves throughout the course of the game. Nice.

I suspect this will take a couple years to get it where we want it…but it’s a clear move in the right direction. (14 upvotes)

This from last weeks game against USA has resonated quite well! The Knowles’ scheme looks great heading into Big 12 play.

6. Some Pregame Thoughts on Saturday’s Game v. the Broncos

OSU Student: Saturday’s gonna be a tough one. I have so little of a feel on these teams that we could lose by 20, lose by 2, win by 2, or win by 20 and none of them would surprise me at all. (13 upvotes)

I felt the exact same way. There were a lot of questions heading into this one, but OSU left the majority of viewers ~cautiously~ optimistic moving forward.

7. On Corndog’s Abilities

OrangeandBlack: Corndog is NOT a pocket passer. Every time he holds onto the ball too long. The game might still be moving too fast for him. After OCMY started running him and moving him out of the pocket, QBTC came into his own. My hat is off. I did not think TC had it in him. Great job Yurcich! (13 upvotes)

I think you are right about this. Which is interesting because heading into the season, I would have predicted that Corndog was more of a pocket-passer than Sanders or Brown -– and he still might be. He did seem to settle down once he got hit a couple of times and reeled off a few solid runs. Running the ball and getting in on the action might be a good way for him to get involved and comfortable with the offense early on.

8. On OSU’s Defense against Boise this week

brentparkey: I’m watching football for entertainment. This defense is more entertaining even if the results end up being a wash, therefore, I’m for it. (12 upvotes)

Brent, I’m with you. In years previous, I would cringe waiting until the Cowboy offense got the ball back. But on Saturday, I had just as much fun, if not more, watching the defense! I will admit, I am concerned that our aggressive style’s early-game payout might lead to late-game fatigue against more formidable Big 12 opponents.

9. More from 10 Thoughts, KP’s Writing gets some – well deserved – Love

Drdubya: “Trappier than an 18th century fur trader.” I’ll take obscure historical references for 200 Alex. (11 upvotes)

Writing like this doesn’t come as easy for everyone as it does for KP. One of the things that I underestimated before joining PFB six weeks ago is how fast-paced writing for a site like this is. Unlike the type of writing I’m used to, longer and more time-consuming pieces, writing on OSU sports requires quick-thinking and fast-typing. This makes including clever statements, like the one above, even more impressive.

10. On Thomas Harper Proving Rankings might not mean everything

Adam M: Pistols Firing!

I honestly can’t stop watching this gif. I love it. This might be better than the *eyes* emoji when a recruit is about to commit to the #Pokes.
