With much of the 2026 wrestling recruiting done, sights are starting to shift toward the 2027 class, and David Taylor might again be swinging for the fences.

Melvin Miller, the top recruit in the 2027 class, announced his top nine schools Wednesday: Oklahoma State, NC State, Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan, Pitt, Iowa, Missouri and Arizona State.

Miller hails from Bishop McCort High School in Pennsylvania, where he is high school teammates with Jax Forrest, the crown jewel in Taylor’s 2026 recruiting class. Miller is also the adopted brother of Bo Bassett, another top three recruit in the 2026 class who is committed to Iowa.

Wrestling at 70 kg (about 154 pounds) at the U20 U.S. Open in April, Miller made it to the finals before losing to Penn State signee P.J. Duke 8-5. There’s no shame in losing to Duke, as he is two classes ahead of Miller and Duke just beat world silver medalist Yianni Diakomihalis at Final X this past weekend to make the Senior World Team.

Miller also made it to the final of the U20 World Team Trials by teching OSU signee Kody Routledge in the semis. Miller fell to Landon Robideau, another OSU signee, 3-2 in the final.

Flo has Miller ranked as the No. 3 157-pound high schooler in the country behind Duke and Robideau, who will both be on college rosters next season. Miller won a Pennsylvania state title this past school year along with winning at Fargo (coming back from a late 7-3 deficit to do so) and in the Powerade tournament in 2024.

Thus far Taylor has almost solely gone big-game hunting in recruiting as the Cowboys’ coach. He has four (Forrest, Dreshaun Ross, Jordyn Raney and Jayden Raney) of Flo’s top six wrestlers committed in OSU’s 2026 class. That class adds to an impressive 2025 class that includes three wrestlers (LaDarion Lockett, Robideau and Sergio Vega) in Flo’s top seven.
