The Cowboys on Wednesday made the top group for a highly regarded Houston-area defensive prospect.

Chad Woodfork released a top nine: Oklahoma State, Georgia, Texas, USC, Baylor, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Georgia Tech and Houston. Woodfork is the No. 42 player in the 2025 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. His 0.9770 Composite rating would make him OSU’s fifth-highest rated commit in program history, should he choose the Cowboys. It would make him OSU’s top defensive commit since Richetti Jones in 2007.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Woodfork is a consensus four-star prospect out of Summer Creek High School in Houston. The Composite rankings have him as the No. 9 player from the state of Texas and the No. 6 edge rusher in the class.

Woodfork’s Bulldogs went 14-2 in his junior season, making it to the Texas 6A-DII state final before falling to DeSoto. Woodfork had 33 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, seven quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries this past season, according to MaxPreps.

OSU offered Woodfork in September. Along with the rest of his top group, Woodfork also has offers to Miami, Arkansas, Duke and others.

It’s early days in the 2025 cycle, but the Cowboys are one of six Big 12 programs without a commit in the class. If the Pokes could land a guy like Woodfork, it could set the tone for the rest of the class.
