Tyler Lyons Tossed a Gem to Win the NL Central for the Cardinals
Cowboys helping Cardinals in the MLB.
The St. Louis Cardinals won their 100th game last night and, somehow, just now clinched the NL Central even though they have eight more wins than any other division leader or winner. Former Cowboy Tyler Lyons, getting a spot start because of an injury, twirled seven innings, scattered four hits and moved to 3-1 on the season.
“Everyone would love to be in a situation where you’ve got a chance to go out there and … clinch arguably one of the best divisions in baseball,” Lyons said. “That’s all I viewed it as, an opportunity to go out and help the team win again and try to clinch what we started back in Spring Training.”
His manager was pleased, too.
“Off the charts. Couldn’t be any more proud of what he was able to do,” manager Mike Matheny said. “He just kept going. I just kept firing him out there. Why wouldn’t you? … He had everything working today. It was a great display of what he can do.”
The Cards clearly enjoyed it afterwards.
