Uniform Review: Black and Chrome Helmet Makes All-Black Unis Elite

To start off, I have to say how awesome it was seeing TCU wear the Kneeling Cowboy decal on their helmets this weekend.

What a great gesture. The only way it could have looked better was if it was on the greatest TCU helmet ever:

Can someone explain to me why these helmets are collecting dust?

Let’s move on to the real reason why you’re here: the undefeated Cowboys. We should give Carson props for predicting all black, but the real props go to the equipment staff. This helmet seemingly came out of nowhere. What mad scientist is working back there taking helmets apart and putting them back together in new and exciting ways? Better yet, how can I apply for this job?

If I were to rank my top ten OSU helmets, and one of the rules was that I had to choose at least one helmet with the Pete logo to place in the top five, I would pick this one. In general, it took me a while to get used to the helmet stripe, and even longer to get used to Pete logos, but I loved this helmet the first time I saw it.

This helmet really works well with the all black uniforms. All black already exists as one of the sharpest combos in everyone’s minds, so adding the chrome stripe and chrome facemask makes the combo elite. Remember when the all black combo arrived on campus as a freshman in 2011? It’s like we’re seeing it after four years of strength and conditioning under Coach Glass.

Oklahoma State is 9-0 and the Cowboys remain undefeated with the uniform matchups. As always, it’s a great time to be a Cowboy. As we look ahead to next week, I’m sure it has crossed the minds of many that OSU shouldn’t wear Black-White-Orange at Iowa State. Even though we have exorcised the combo by defeating OU, it’s probably a good idea to show up ready to play in a different combo.

We are experiencing a revival due to the number of new options to choose from with all of these amazing helmets. What would you like to see the Pokes wear for their last road game of the season?
