Video: Gary Patterson, College Gameday Crew Break Down OSU-TCU Matchup
Oklahoma State faces its toughest test of the season on Saturday against No. 16 TCU in Stillwater.
We’ve broken down the matchups to expect — OSU’s high-octane offense facing Gary Patterson’s stingy defense, namely — and Patterson himself weighed in on the challenge on College Gameday on Saturday.
“You’ve got to love playing against a guy like Mason Rudolph and his set of wide receivers,” TCU coach Gary Patterson said. “You’ve just got to sit back and admire how well he does it. I think it gives us an opportunity to measure ourselves and find out where we are as a team.”
We all know Rudolph and his touted receiving corps. will draw plenty of attention in TCU’s game plan Saturday. But ESPN analyst David Pollack emphasized the importance of maintaining balance and not falling in love with the deep ball, especially with No. 5 Justice Hill’s production this season.
“To move forward with this offense, I think it has to have balance,” Pollack said. “It can’t just be the deep ball, and we’ve talked about ad nauseam, we’ve talked about bombs away.. They’re running the football a little bit better, and they’ve got a running back in Justice Hill who can make people miss.”
Hill enters Big 12 play with 250 yards on the ground on 37 attempts this season, and while he’s not been the feature piece of the offense with so much attention on the receivers and Rudolph, Hill’s presence in the backfield will be of vital importance if OSU is to remain undefeated.
Said Pollack: “This offense, I think right now they’re going to get 30 every game. TCU’s going to have to prove us wrong today.”
