Watch: Mike Boynton Celebrates Double-OT Texas Win with Team

“That’s a team that can make a run in the Big Dance.”

Oklahoma State battled through its worst shooting performance of the season to lock down and shut out the No. 6 team in the country for the last two-plus minutes of regulation — and through two overtime periods.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Cowboys earned a huge win and another feather in the cap for a team with its eyes on the Big Dance, and more than an outside chance of making some noise once it gets there.

Following the game, Mike Boynton addressed his team with the type of fervor that would make you want to run through a locker room wall and straight to the team bus for the next game, no matter how many overtimes you just played.

“That’s our team that we saw out there, guys,” said Boynton. “That’s a team that can make a run in the Big Dance.

“I told you. We’re fighting for it now. We’re fighting for it because we believe in you guys. If you give that type of effort, not matter what happens, we’ll be fine.”

OSU has appealed the NCAA’s postseason ban that’s hung over the program like a cloud since last summer, and the fact that no date has been set for its hearing is a good sign that any punishment that is upheld will be stayed until after the tournament.

The Cowboys have a quick turnaround, devoid of much rest despite the 50-minute game on Saturday, when they head to Allen Fieldhouse on Monday night.
