We’re Hiring: PFB is Looking for a Wrestling-Only Beat Writer for 2018

One of the things your contributions have allowed us to do is to start thinking about building out coverage of the non-football and non-basketball sports at Oklahoma State. These sports don’t get the coverage of a football or basketball, mostly because the demand doesn’t allow it.

But one market we feel is wildly underserved right now is Oklahoma State wrestling. Based on our past coverage of it, limited as it may have been, we think there is a real opportunity to cover OSU matches, recruiting and the national wrestling landscape in a far more robust way because we think Cowboy fans crave this information and coverage.

I’ve covered the sport in the past when it’s been a necessity, and it’s mostly been a disaster. Watching wrestling for me is like listening to the radio in a foreign language. I can make out what’s going on (kind of), but I have no idea if it’s good, bad or indifferent.

Because of this and where we stand with our resources we want to hire a wrestling-only beat writer. This person will be paid, will attend duals in Stillwater and the surrounding areas, will cover wrestling recruiting and will write about duals outside of Oklahoma the same way we do with football and basketball — by watching on TV.

We are open-handed with what this looks like. Our only stipulation is that you live in Stillwater and are obsessed with Oklahoma State wrestling. You will be instructed and mentored in terms of how a beat works and how we as an organization want to cover teams. I’m more concerned with how deep your knowledge is of OSU wrestling history and how closely you currently follow it all than I am with your journalism background.

We’re looking forward to adding another piece to this puzzle and thrilled to see what Oklahoma State wrestling has in store for 2018.
