Yankuba Sima Is Ready to Finally See the Court for OSU
One of the new faces you’ll see this year when Oklahoma State takes the court is Yankuba Sima. The 6-foot-11 center sat out most of last year after transferring from St. Johns in the middle of the season.
In an interview released by the OSU basketball program, Sima says it’s been tough to sit, but that he has taken advantage of his time.
“Yeah, it was a tough year for me,” says Sima. “Obviously sitting down is not fun, but at the same time it was a year that I can take advantage of, by working hard every single day and get extra shots and improve my skills. Also my strength.”
“It’s been great. I love the work they’re doing here. They push us every day. There’s no time to relax, and that’s what we need to get a good run in the tournament next year.”

As a freshman, Sima was a solid rim protector for the Red Storm. He put up 7.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game in 23.4 minutes. He expects to be able to contribute for the Cowboys and is looking forward to it.
“Rebounding, defensive, I’m a guy that can do both of them really well,” says Sima. “Also contributing on the offensive end too by scoring the ball and distributing the ball pretty well too.”
“I’ve seen how the Big 12 is, it’s really tough, and I’m looking forward for it. I know we’re going to be pretty good.”
Sima chose to transfer last December after seeing his minutes reduced during his sophomore year. Â Because he transferred late, Sima will have to sit out the first half of the season, but will still have another full season next year to play with the Cowboys.
Once he sees the court, Sima should provide something the Cowboys haven’t had in some time — talented height. If Sima can match (or better) his freshman production, the Cowboys will have a real weapon inside that will come in handy during conference play.
