Zach Sinor Named Ray Guy Award Nominee
Oklahoma State punter Zach Sinor has been named one of 66 nominees for consideration of the Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced earlier this week.
The Ray Guy Award is the nation’s top honor handed out to the top collegiate punter.
“He’s been super for us,” head coach Mike Gundy said of his special teams weapon. “One thing you don’t see in the statistics is that there have been a few snaps that haven’t been great, and he’s gone up and gotten the ball or scooped the ball.”
Sinor ranks 32nd nationally in yards per punt average at 43.2, and second in the Big 12 conference behind Texas’ Michael Dickson who is No. 2 in the country averaging 47.9.
Where Sinor makes his money, though, is in target punting and limiting opponents in returns. Although he is No. 32 in average punt yards, he has Oklahoma State ranked third nationally in net punting, with a net average of 40.89 just behind La. Tech and BYU who average 43.51 and 41.00, respectively.
Other Big 12 nominees announced included Baylor’s Drew Galitz, Iowa State’s Colin Downing, Kansas’ Cole Moos, OU’s Austin Seibert, TCU’s Adam Nunez, Texas’ Michael Dickson and West Virginia’s Billy Kinney.
The list of 66 nominees will soon be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists, to be announced on Nov. 11.
