Zack Dawson Sticking With Oklahoma State After Boynton Hire

Published

New head coach Mike Boynton has his first big recruiting win: Four-star point guard Zack Dawson, the highest rated member of OSU’s 2017 recruiting class, is sticking with Oklahoma State according to Corey Evans of Rivals.

Dawson originally committed to Brad Underwood and his regime back in June of 2016, and signed his national letter of intent earlier this spring. Because Underwood left, forcing OSU to hire a new coach, many times the NCAA will release prospects from their letter of intent. But with Boynton being elevated to the head coaching position, and Lamont Evans staying on staff, Dawson is in the fold for the long haul.

The 6-foot-4 guard is ranked No. 128 nationally in the 2017 class and is the 30th best at the point guard position according to 247sports. Dawson originally held offers from Louisville, Iowa State, University of Southern California, Arizona and UCF before committing to OSU.

Hiring Boynton was about maintaining the current roster and recruits as much as it was gambling on an assistant with no head coaching experience, and so far he’s 2-for-2 in retaining Evans, widely seen as OSU’s top recruiter, and now retaining his top-rated prospect in Dawson.

What this means moving forward is that OSU might be able to hang onto Dawson’s teammate, Latravian Glover, who also signed with Oklahoma State. Glover was a lesser-heralded recruit who tore his ACL during his junior season, but has had a monster senior year. He also signed with OSU earlier this spring. Check out highlights of Dawson (#0) and Glover (#11) below.
