Death, taxes and Rickie Fowler being a kind-hearted human.

As Cameron stood talking to some of Fowler’s family, he realized that a little girl was standing behind him. She thought Cameron was waiting for Fowler’s autograph, too, and had waited silently for her turn. But now, Fowler was gone.

The girl’s parents explained that they had driven all the way from Amarillo expecting to go to just one day of the tournament. Instead, they stayed for all four days because of how much the little girl loved Fowler.

Moments later, Fowler ushered his family and his friends back to the players’ lounge. Fowler’s dad told him about the girl.

“Bring them back here,” Fowler said.

Fowler not only signed every autograph and took every picture with the family, but he also chatted with them for at least 10 minutes.

“The look on that little girl’s face whenever he opened the gate and he was waiting on her … ,” Cameron said, “she could hardly talk.” [NewsOK]

Carlson’s piece goes on to mention how Fowler’s peers would gladly cheer him on if he brings home his first major this weekend. Some say your character is tested by how you treat people who you don’t stand anything to gain from. Fowler passes that “good guy” test with flying colors.

Growing Confidence

It turned heads when Mike Gundy gushed about his 2018 offensive line when compared to previous units, particularly with the loss of two starting tackles and a four-year center. So why the confidence?

The reason for optimism? A combination of experience and depth unlike OSU has seen since the Joe Wickline era.

While the Cowboys lost three seniors — Lundblade, Aaron Cochran and Zach Crabtree — from last year’s unit, they return four players with starting experience in the Big 12.

Guards Marcus Keyes and Larry Williams are the most experienced linemen on the roster. Williams will try to avoid the injuries that have ended each of his past two seasons prematurely. Keyes, who had an offseason procedure to fix a torn labrum, is facing competition from senior Deionte Noel at left guard.

Then there’s Wilson, who has center locked down.

Junior Arlington Hambright, who redshirted last season after transferring from Garden City (Kansas) Community College, is the projected starter at left tackle. Sophomore Teven Jenkins, who started against TCU, Baylor and Texas last season, could be the youngest player in the starting lineup at right tackle.

I think the strength of the offensive line (interior linemen) matches the strength of this team perfectly while the monster tackles on last year’s team fit the long-bomb offense well. But the comments on depth are pretty inarguable when you consider how shallow the depth chart was.

Mental toughness has to be present for this kind of record.

This is some good perspective. I understand folks desire for progress but there’s something to enjoying where you’re at and a spirit of discontentment that makes life hard to enjoy.
