Labor Day Bullets (Sept. 3): Watching With Corndog’s Mom, Ever-Shifting OL Rotations
Happy Labor Day to all and a moment of solidarity to those of you who, like me, are laboring on this day. On to the Bullets.
Through the eyes of mom
Great idea and execution here from Jenni Carlson on sitting with Taylor Cornelius’ mom for the first game and writing about what she saw and felt.
There were moments of sheer joy. Taylor’s big 32-yard scramble in the first quarter left Phyllis standing on the bleachers, arms raised in the air, fists pumping the sky. Then, when he connected with Sione Finefeuiaki for a touchdown early in the second quarter, Phyllis cheered before pausing a moment. “His first touchdown pass,” she said, quietly. [NewsOK]
Crushing college athletes for performance is always difficult (though a healthy critique can be fair). Stuff like this makes it even more difficult.
Changing OL
Mark Cooper does a good job breaking down all the OL combinations here. I’m not sure I realized how much everyone moved around in the first 12 drives.
Mike Gundy said last week Oklahoma State would have the depth to rotate its guards on the offensive line, a luxury this unit hasn’t seen in years.
He wasn’t kidding. In the three quarters Oklahoma State’s first-team offense was on the field, it felt like a new combination was trotting out in front of Taylor Cornelius each possession. In the third quarter, Josh Henson even changed centers to give Johnny Wilson’s backup some meaningful work. [Tulsa World]
OSU and NCAA Notes
Berry ranks ’em WVU-OU-TCU-OSU after Week 1 … Ninth prez on being a QB on defense … Cowgirls beat Loyola-Chicago 2-0 on Sunday … Enjoyed this three up, three down piece from Mark Cooper — good details, which he’s great at … OSU is now No. 21 in the FPIÂ … wasn’t a great opening week for the Big 12.
This was a great tweet.
Going to be tough working as both the basketball head coach and Mayor of Stillwater at the same time. https://t.co/kenp4jJXxX
