Final Notes and Thoughts on Oklahoma State’s Loss to Iowa State
The Cowboys got throttled, and we still have a lot to discuss.
I don’t love revisiting it, but the show must go on. Following my 10 Thoughts last night (and a very animated comments section!) here are a few leftover notes and thoughts I had on OSU’s loss to the Cyclones in Stillwater.
• A new old thing I heard on Saturday that was pretty cool: “Touchdown, Woods.” I hope to hear it a few more times over the next three and a half years.
• A note I wrote in the first: “Freshman QB is a panic move!” Joke’s on me.
• I missed Iowa State’s first drive because I couldn’t stop watching OU-Texas. Mostly because I love OU but also because it was an incredible game and ending. Dicker the kicker! Gus quoting Isaiah!
• Haha yes!

• This was great.

• Why did ESPN2’s replays look like the Blair Witch Project?
• That Purdy to Butler TD early gave me some Weeden2Blackmon flashbacks. Same end of the field. Same corned of the end zone. Same turbo boost from what would go on to be a terrific QB-WR duo.
• I wish OSU played more games in a phone booth.
• A summation of the game right here. The guy underneath the pink arrow (Justice Hill) has the ball. There are four guys between him and the nearest blocker and three OSU guys staring at those four guys. Sweet.

• Yup.

• I definitely read too much into the way things feel, but there’s not much energy emanating from Stillwater right now. Seems like coaches and players are just plodding their way through the season even though they’ve had everything at stake in each of the first six.
• Dude gets way too many penalties, but I guess you live with it when he does this.
• If I’m Chuba and one of my feet isn’t touching the back of the end zone, I’m gone.
• The announcers seemed to be praising TC for not utilizing the transfer rule yet. Me —> ?
• It’s the right take.
HERE'S THE TAKE…
GUNDY STRUGGLES TO PUT THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE FIELD BECAUSE HE'S TOO LOYAL TO EXPERIENCE AND SYSTEM KNOWLEDGE.

• Me: This day cannot get any worse. ESPN2: Yes it can.

• One of the announcers saying “Rodarius has had a great day defending the ball” right as an Iowa State receiver dropped a TD was pretty on the nose.
• Also, how?

• This isn’t saying much, but it seemed like Knowles won the “which coordinator will make better halftime adjustments” contest. Of course Iowa State was scoring at a “Florida State in 2013” clip in the first half so … yeah.
• Five sacks in the first half!
Half ends with Iowa State's FIFTH sack. Cyclones had six sacks in four games coming into today.
Iowa State 30, #OKState 21. Cowboys do get ball to begin the third quarter.

• I died.
The formations our band is making on the field at halftime looks better than the football team did the first half.

• The non-targeting call on Jordan Brailford was definitely targeting. Zero question. He hit high, led with his helmet and absolutely clocked Purdy. Not good.
• OSU special teams in one photo.

• Iowa State got scared late, didn’t they? They finished punt-INT-FG-fumble-punt-TD-punt-game. Not exactly deserving of a full put of coffee. Maybe a shot or two for building such a big lead to begin with but not the whole deal.
• Why in the world did Iowa State go for two when they went up 46-35? There’s a small difference between being up 12 and 13, but there’s a massive difference between being up 11 and being up 12. It’s the changeover from a one-possession to a two-possession game.
• Sweet mercy.
• Cox!
It was a good year to start selling beer inside the stadium.
