Big 12 Update: OU, Tech Pick Up Wins in Light Week for Big 12
A look at the goings on from around the league during OSU’s off week.
Week 8 was a light one for the Big 12, as only four teams played.
There weren’t any surprises, but some things in the conference are becoming more set in stone like OU is pretty good, TCU is not as good as predicted, Tech can score points and Kansas stinks (but we already knew that). Here’s a recap of the two Big 12 games from Saturday.
No. 9 Oklahoma 52, TCU 27
The Sooners struggled with TCU early, but Oklahoma was able to outscore the Horned Frogs 24-3 in the second half.
Kyler Murray was efficient as usual, going 19-for-24 for 213 yards and four touchdowns. He ran for another 51 yards.
A good sign for OU fans after Rodney Anderson’s injury earlier in the season was the fact that two OU running backs ran for more than 100 yards. Kennedy Brooks had 168 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while Trey Sermon had 17 carries, 110 yards and two scores.
TCU made a switch at quarterback after going down 28-7 early. Sophomore Michael Collins entered and finished 7-for-17 with 142 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Sadly, Collins was also TCU’s leading rusher with 36 yards on seven carries.
Kavontae Turpin had TCU’s most explosive play of the day. Turpin ran back a 99-yard kick return. Turpin returned a punt for a score earlier this season.

Texas Tech 48, Kansas 16
Kansas attempted to get in a classic Big 12 shootout with Texas Tech, as KU quarterback Peyton Bender had 41 pass attempts. However, he only completed 18 of them.
Tech freshman quarterback Alan Bowman, on the other hand, finished 36-for-46 with 408 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. It was Bowman’s first game back after suffering a partially collapsed lung three weeks ago. Antoine Wesley caught nine passes for 155 yards and a touchdown.
KU running back Pooka Williams was the game’s leading rusher with 80 yards. Ta’Zhawn Henry, Demarcus Felton and Tre King all had rushing touchdowns for Tech.
The victory moved Kliff Kingsbury back to even at 35-35 as Tech’s coach.
