Daily Bullets (June 4): Pokes Looking to Add Another to the HoF, A Bowl Lineup Change
Cowboys walked out of Bricktown with a win in what could be affectionately called McCusker’s last stand – the guy made some phenomenal plays.

• Cowboy great Leslie O’Neal has been nominated for the third-straight year for the College Football Hall of Fame… What’s taking so long?
O’Neal’s numbers are more than worthy of induction in the College Football Hall of Fame, but one aspect of the process that may have hurt O’Neal is with the proliferation of media out there, so many candidates virtually get on a promotional campaign and tour of talk radio, satellite radio, and internet sources. Those interviews help get players, who may have been forgotten more known by the newer generation of fans and influences that have a role in the Hall of Fame process. O’Neal has done little, if any, of that kind of activity.
Oklahoma State currently has five representatives in the College Football Hall of Fame – coach Lynn “Pappy” Waldorf (inducted in 1966), Bob Fenimore (inducted in 1972), Barry Sanders (inducted in 2003), Thurman Thomas (inducted in 2008) and coach Jimmy Johnson (inducted in 2012). [GoPokes]
You have to wonder how many Gundy connections will be in the hall when he’s done… Will Gundy himself be in there? Justin Blackmon? James Washington? It’s fun to think about.
• So revenue numbers are out in college sports – how does Oklahoma State figure into the equation?
For Oklahoma State, being in the Big 12 over the last few years has probably been the best combination of quality branding and financial thriving it could possibly have realized. It is a league that is healthy and seemingly moving in the right direction.
And while it doesn’t have the gigantic reach of a Big Ten or a SEC in terms of cash flow, it’s sitting far ahead of where it is perceived to be sitting at the Power 5 table. [PFB]
That’s what it boils down to at this point: who’s taking home how much money and are they in a good spot in the marketplace moving forward? And OSU finds themselves in a good place.
• There’s been a slight change to the Big 12’s bowl lineup starting in 2020 – not which game but who they’ll play.
The Big 12 will maintain its same bowl affiliations in the new bowl cycle. The Big 12 will play three SEC opponents and one each from the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12. The biggest changes will be facing the Big Ten instead of the Pac-12 in the Cheez-It Bowl and facing a Group of 5 opponent in the Armed Forces/First Responder bowls. [Stadium]
The Cheez-It sort of turned into a diet-Holiday Bowl with Pac-12 opponents but it was previously a Big Ten affiliate too (remember the Indiana game in 2007?)
I think the big thing is keeping the SEC games – they weigh more in the mind of national pundits. Heaven help us when Texas-Texas A&M meet in the Sugar Bowl.
• A fascinating look at how a conference (Big Ten in this case) parcels out their games to different networks
• The Athletic‘s Seth Davis has Boynton’s Cowboys ranked No. 27 in his preseason poll ($).
• An impressive home run rob here by McCusker:
