Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe Affirms OSU Commitment, Per Report

Oklahoma State signee Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe is sticking with his commitment despite the postseason ban the program must serve in 2021, per Jon Rothstein, a huge domino to fall as OSU looks to keep its core incoming class intact.

Alexander Moncrieffe has been working out with Cade Cunningham in Texas in recent weeks, perhaps foreshadowing more good news to come soon.

He is the third-highest ranked incoming recruit in OSU’s 2020 class. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 59 overall recruit in the national rankings and a four-star prospect; he’s ranked No. 151 in the 247Sports Composite.

“He’s a high-level athlete,” said OSU assistant Erik Pastrana recently in a video posted to OSU’s social media. “I love that he’s been in high-level competition, internationally,  Orangeville Prep, played a great schedule. His athleticism is off the charts.”

With OSU’s increasingly depleted frontcourt — Yor Anei and Hidde Roessink both entered the transfer portal this week — Alexander Moncrieffe has a chance to slide in as a combo forward, even playing the power forward spot in small-ball lineups with his strong 6-foot-7 frame.

“He’s a driver,” said Mike Boynton of him recently. “He drives with force. He drives understanding that it’s his identity. He drives to put people on posters. I think as a rebounder and defender, he’s going to be able to make an immediate impact for us.”

OSU’s winning over of him is a good sign that most — if not all — of its incoming class will not defect. Thus far every signee from 2020 has affirmed their commitment except for Cade Cunningham, and only two current players, Anei and Roessink, have opted to transfer.
